I really want to learn how to make my own OS! It would be a crying shame to not get past the second chapter because of a configuration error. What do you think is going on? I did everything the book said. I've tried using other options instead of term, x, or sdl, but there's always some issue when I try to install their corresponding packages. Tried searching Google for that error message, with and without quotations, but apparently no one else gets this error - I saw a lot of results for "Cannot connect to X server", but none of Google's results were relevant. I've tried removing display_library from the bochsrc.txt, and also with display_library: x (ensuring bochs-x was installed), but in both cases, it PANICs with the message "Cannot connect to X display". I've tried using term instead of sdl, but that produces a nasty error where the top half of my VM window becomes an unresponsive terminal peppered with incomprehensible bits of an error message that look like it was hit with a frag grenade. I've tried issuing the bochs command as sudo, and it starts to boot up, but the log file says the SDL libraries can't initialize, and it kicks me back to the regular terminal. All in vain bochs is still determined to error out.
I've tried remaking my VM, adding more CPUs to it, and giving it Virtual Machine capability of its own. If you really don't want it, make it '/dev/null', or '-'. Example: debug: actionignore debuggerlog: Give the path of the log file you'd like Bochs to log debugger output. Upon exiting the log file, the rest of the terminal window is vandalized with bits of unicode. NOTE: When actionreport, Bochs may spit out thousands of debug messages per second, which can impact performance and fill up your disk. However, upon running the bochs command, the VM freaking out, and rebooting the VM, the bochs log is filled with unicode characters. I've tried looking into the bochs log, and tried attaching a debugger log just in case. The only way to get out of this crash screen is to shut down my VM from the outside. Which immediately becomes this unresponsive screen: I've done everything as per the instructions in the first two chapters but can't finish the second. I'm running Ubuntu Server 16.04.4 in a Virtualbox VM inside of Mac OS High Sierra.
